Underpinning is a method used to strengthen the foundation of an existing building or structure. Underpinning may be required for a variety of reasons, and as underpinning builders, we carry out the project if the original foundation is simply not strong or stable enough, the usage of the structure has changed, the properties of the soil supporting the foundation may have changed, or simply to add extra depth to a room or to add a basement.
Involving extending the foundation so that it rests on a more supportive system, it may be a more cost-effective solution to improve the current foundation of the building rather than constructing a new one.
What is subsidence?
Subsidence damage tends to occur when movement in the ground causes the building foundations to shift. The damage often will show up as cracks in walls or ceilings.
There are a number of reasons for subsidence, but most commonly it’s caused by faulty drains, tree roots sucking the moisture from the soil, or by drought or a change in the level of the water table.
